Rice oil made from rice bran is rich in Vitamin E and good for crisp frying as it does not oxidize easily. Make sure to also try the pepper flavored oil made with pepper from Wakayama prefecture.

Hatsusakura Sake Brewery

In the olden days, there were 16 sake breweries on Yamato Street but the only one left standing today is the Hatsusakura Sake Brewery. Among some of the sake recommended here are sake related to Mount Koya such as "hannyato" (jargon for sake among Buddhism priests), fruit liquor, and mirin (sweet cooking rice wine).

Umeshita Hyakkaten

Now selling Sanada Himo, which are associated with Yukimura Sanada. These braids started off as wrappings for swords and sword straps, but more recently the colorful designs have been used for cell phone straps, coasters, bag straps, and even as obijime (cord to secure a kimono obi) and gift wrapping.
