Women may especially want to offer one of the breast prayer plaques when visiting the temple. Not only are they used to pray for fertility and safe childbirth, but also for prevention and cure of things like breast cancer and uterine cancer. Mirokudo, part of the main temple, is listed as part of the “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range” UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Also of note is the statue of Gon, the Koysan guide dog. Gon was a dog that would guide pilgrims on their journey to Jison-in and Koyasan. It’s said that the dog was a reincarnation of Kubo Daishi. The story has been made into a book, Koyasan no Annaiken Gon, that was published by Heart. The statue also appears in the manga Asahinagu.
